Postgraduate Research Programs
The School of Economics offers two graduate research degrees, the Master of Economics (Research) and the Ph.D. in Economics, and supervision of graduate-level theses is possible in most major fields. Both the Master of Economics (Research) and the Ph.D. have a coursework component. This constitutes part of the University's requirements for the Structured Program that must be completed by all students enrolled in higher degrees by research. Research students in the School of Economics will, in general, devote part of their first year to satisfying the core component of the Structured Program. This includes meeting certain coursework requirements, participation in the graduate student Colloquium, and the preparation and presentation of a thesis proposal. The remaining time will be devoted primarily to independent research leading to the thesis, but will encompass the development component of the Structured Program. This second component will include continued participation in the Colloquium and attendance at the School of Economics weekly research workshops and seminars. Research Awards
