The Patrick Whelan Investments Prize for Level II Finance

In March 1998 the Managing Director of Patrick Whelan Investments Limited, Mr Richard Levy, discussed his interest in funding a Patrick Whelan Prize for first year Finance students with the Head of the School of Economics, Prof Richard Pomfret. After discussions between Mrs Elizabeth Geddes, School Manager, and Mr Richard Levy, it was decided that the prize would be awarded to the Bachelor of Finance student with the highest overall results in the Level II compulsory subjects; the following rules are hereby made:

  1. The prize shall be known as 'The Patrick Whelan Investments Prize for Level II Finance'.
  2. The annual value of the prize shall be $500.
  3. The prize shall be awarded by the School of Economics to the Bachelor of Finance student obtaining the best combined result in the Level II compulsory subjects provided that, in the opinion of the examiners, the candidate is of sufficient merit. Where two candidates are of equal merit, the prize shall be shared equally.
  4. The terms of the prize may be varied at any time, by agreement between Patrick Whelan Investments and the University.
  5. Patrick Whelan Investments Ltd will award the prize for five years (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003) and review the scheme during 2003.
