About the School
| Professor Christopher Findlay introduces the School of Economics and answers the question 'What is Economics?' |
We are a medium-sized department, with a complement of 20 academic staff members. We offer a supportive and collegial learning environment that enables students to receive individualised attention and interact closely with academic staff.
At undergraduate level, the School offers the Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Economics with Honours, either as standalone degrees or as part of the University’s dual degree program. We also teach into a number of degrees across the University, offered by Commerce, Engineering and the Humanities.
At the postgraduate level, the School offers the Master of Applied Economics with the added opportunity to specialise in International economics or Public Policy. These degrees focus on equipping working professionals and recent graduates with the latest analytical and statistical tools in the field. We also offer the Master of Economics by coursework and an MPhil. For students seeking rigorous preparation for an academic career, we offer a PhD in Economics.
Many of our graduates have gone on to distinguished careers in the banking and financial sectors, in education, government, the Reserve Bank of Australia, as well as non-profit organisations such as the IMF and the World Bank.
We have a healthy research base with diverse interests and specialisms in international trade and policy, business cycle macroeconomics, game theory and networks and applied econometrics.
We welcome you to our web site and encourage you to explore and contact us for more information.
